Why Parents Feel the Need to Throw Birthday Parties

So I just finished up with my 4 year old's birthday party. Pretty interesting! We had a blast, but I was a total beast before the party to my kids and my husband because of the anxiety over having 50 people come to my house! Why do we do this to ourselves?
